Is in that any benefit to using the HDMI vrs the component outputs on video equipment?

I know hdmi transmits audio as well but is there any video benefit.
My tv one and only supports 1080i and not p

My Tosheba Regza maxes out at 1080i too. I use a Monster HDMI cable and the picture is amazing.
