Anvil Studio is good too, especially if you have MIDI enabled upright

It really depends on your skill level. If you are a professional composer, you would want either Sonar or Cubase (on the PC) or Digital Performer, Logic (on the Mac). Plus you'll want Finale or Sibelius for notating the music.

If you aren't a professional, try Garage Band on the Mac. It will do most of what you inevitability. Source(s): I am a composer.
