Do metals other form cations? Or can they become anions?
Okay, so I am kinda confused. My chemistry teacher said that metals form cations and nonmetals form anions. However, is this always true? What in the order of the metals that contain 5 or 6 valence electrons?
Take for example, Lead (Pb). Why would it lose 6 electrons when it could easily gain two?
Answers:
Lead is a 1+ and 2+ ion. It's a cation not an anion. I'm pretty sure all metals are cations. Gasses tend to organize towards the anion side. Acetates (C2 H3 02) is an anion with a 1- charge.
I'm taking the same chemistry class, junior year.
