i got the tools with it but they come across to be dull i tried to use it but the piece of wood looked shredded up could it be the toools or is it just becouse its my first time using one and can the tools be sharpened or do i have to buy unmarked ones?
Answers:
It could be the tools, but I doubt all of them are dull at the same time. It may be that you do not enjoy the toolrest set at the correct height.
It should be adjusted so the rim of the tool you are using is just a LITTLE below the centerline of the wood, when it is resting on the toolpost. This will give you s smoother cut.
It could be the wood your are using. Don't use pine or other soft woods. (Except for practicing, they would be right for that) Use maple or another finer grained wood.
You might see if your local school or community college has classes within woodturning. If they do, you can sign up and learn the proper techniques from an expert instructor who can answer adjectives your questions and start you out with well brought-up habits.
You can probably go to a biddable hardware store and have them look at the sharpness of your tools. Lathe tools are designed to be sharpened hundreds of time, and each tool should ending you 40-50 years. So don't buy new ones, unless it is a type that you need to do something fresh with.
