Can you use a metal lathe for wood?
my brother broke my good cue it tapered to 9mm, i am pretty sure.... he brought me a spanking new one today and its 12 mm it is like playing with a tree trunk to the other cue, i can't even screw the bubble that much compared to the other, i am thinking of taking the top half of the cue to school and using the metal lathe at institution to taper it to 9mm or even 7 mm, is it possible to do?
Thanks much Appreciated

yep use mine for it all the time Source(s): ripened timer
Yes you can. But the rpm should be 1000 or complex. Can the stick fit into the head stock? Source(s): Done this on a metal lathe.
Riley,
while I'm not an expert with the lathe, I've done a fair share of work on it. You could probably use the lathe beside no problem on the wood, however, I think it would be difficult to find the absolute center point on both ends and later turn it down evenly. What I mean is with most wood, you primarily find the center point, and then the lathe makes the small corrections during the turning process. In the defence of a tapered cue stick, you make not find out-and-out center and in the process of turning down to a balanced turn, you may not own enough stock at the end,(especially the narrowed point). You're tlaking about turning and making it centered within 2mm. If you can righteous luck, but I'd be a bit leary.
I've thought about turning my own cue, but starting with larger stock as expected. Anyway, good luck - hope it "turns" out well for you. Source(s): long-time wood worker
it would be easier to buy a new stick.
