Metal lathes?
I have this really important homewrok due tomorrow and I hold to find out what "parallel turning" is and it has to be on a metal lathe. I also need to know what facing sour, centre drilling and knerling are.

Say you've got a cylinder of Aluminium pub, or whatever, in the chuck:
Parallel turning is taking textile off along the length of the cyinder such that it is parallel adjectives the way along.
Facing off is moving the tool perpindicular to the cylinder and adjectives the face of the cylinder to give it a smooth even finish.
Centre drilling is evidently drilling a hole down the centre of the cylinder.
Knerling (Knurling?) is putting a texture of the surface with a special tool. It cuts diagonal lines on the suface so you terminate up with lots of little diamond shapes on the surface. See the screw-gate on a carribiner.

As it's turning, you can use tools to remove metal making grooves, rings etc. Think of a chair leg, these are made on lathes.
